Since ancient times, man has harnessed the power of the wind to provide motive power for transportation. Likewise, the technique of grinding grain between stones to produce flour is similarly ancient, and widespread.

At one time there was over 9000 windmills in the Netherlands. Now there are less than 1000 windmills left. They have been there for a few hundred years, and this one was there for all of us to see.

There is something exciting about power getting generated from something that we cant see , wind but still it does so much useful work since time immemorial.

I was surprised by the fact that this station rests on 8,687 wooden stakes driven into 3 manmade islands and took seven years to build.The project was very controversial in its time because it involved taking back the city’s old, historic harbor and filling it up with mud. And with a sea faring history as a shipping and sailing city, residents felt the new station was burying the city’s heart and its spectacular waterfront views , but I guess no one complains now with all the prosperity and tourism it brings to this place.

We took the No 58 bus from Schipol airport , luckily the first few ones to board it and settled comfortable on our seats.The bus was slowly getiing filled up and after some time it was packed to capacity.Thats when the bus driver started the bus and we were off to Keukenhof Tulip garden. The bus passed lots of plain land , with a wind mill or two in sight which Holland is so famous for.Suddenly after around 30 minutes of ride , we could slowly sense the eexcitement in the crowd and started to see the flowers.Then, as we turned we entered the main place to go inside the garden , I looked up and gasped. Before me lay the most glorious sight.

It looked as though someone had taken a great vat of gold and poured it over the garden , the mountain peaks and its surrounding slopes. The flowers were planted in
majestic, swirling patterns, great ribbons and swaths of deep orange, creamy
white, lemon yellow, salmon pink, and saffron and butter yellow.

Each different-colored variety was planted in large groups so that it swirled and
flowed like its own river with its own unique hue. There were 15 acres of
flowers. One though that came to my mind was the sight of Tulips just outside Central Park in New York and here they were every where.

One of mother nature's greatest works of art lay in front of us.

This one reminded us of the monument in Washington.
The Luxor Obelisk is a 23 metres (75 ft) high Egyptian obelisk standing at the center of the Place de la Concorde in Paris. It was originally located at the entrance to the Luxor Temple, in Egypt and is 3,300-year-old and arrived in Paris on December 21, 1833.gave me the shivers when i read that it was the place where a guillotine used to stand during the Revolution and King Louis-Philippe had it placed in the center of Place de la Concorde.

The Eiffel Tower or as the French say Tour Eiffel is a 19th century iron lattice tower located on the Champ de Mars in Paris that has become both a global icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The Eiffel Tower, which is the tallest building in Paris, is the single most visited paid monument in the world; millions of people ascend it every year. Named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, the tower was built as the entrance arch for the 1889 World's Fair.

The tower stands 1,063 ft tall, about the same height as an 81-storey building. It was the tallest man-made structure in the world from its completion until 1930, when it was eclipsed by the Chrysler Building in New York City. Not including broadcast antennas, it is the second-tallest structure in France, behind the Millau Viaduct, completed in 2004.

The tower has three levels for visitors. Tickets can be purchased to ascend either on stair or lift to the first and second levels. The walk to the first level is over 300 steps, as is the walk from the first to the second level. The third and highest level is accessible only by lift. This was winter time in Geneva , the trees all bare with not a single leaf on them.Reminded me of our days in Jersey city where the tree outside our home used to shed its leaves and in spring used to be totally covered with Lush green leaves.
C'est la vie , thats life , one moment all bare and withered and next beautifully adorned with fresh green leaves.

Water water everywhere but no place to park the boat. Seems like a typical city problem of not having space to park but instead of cars its boats here.There were so many boats in the Geneva lake with their sails drawn down and masts pointing up, they looked like pins in the waters.

This was at Lake Leman at Geneva, Switzerland on a nice sunny Sunday afternoon.You can see the famous Jet D'Eau , the water fountain, in the back ground.This fountain is one of the city's most famous landmark and also one of the largest fountains in the world.This is at the point where Lake Geneva empties into the Rhone River, it is visible throughout the city and from the air, I saw it when the plane was landing !When it is in operation, at any given moment there is about 7,000 litres of water in the air.Thats a whole lot of water to get drenched if the wind direction suddenly changes to your side.

We had heard a lot about this museum , that it was one of the world's largest , had one of the world most amazing collections of artifacts , so we were thinking of going ahead and visiting this place.The movie " One night at the museum " playing on TV was the final push.

So away we went on a beautiful Saturday morning , with the sky nice and clear.

The view inside was amazing , we entered into a hall where we witnessed one of the largest collection of African , Asian and North American mammals.There was even a full sized model of a Blue whale suspended in one of the halls.

It was hot day and we wanted a cool place to rest before going to the Shamu show which was about a hour later.Thats when we reached the Nautilus Theater playing the Odyssea show.

The wonders of the sea came to life with a breathtaking, mystical show at SeaWorld's Nautilus Theater. Odyssea was a refreshingly different fun filled circus with high-flying acrobatic performances, delightful comedy, whimsical costumes, dramatic music and fantastic special effects within a spectacular set themed as an underwater fantasy world.

Whats more fun than clap along to the pickin', grinnin', foot-stompin' pack of banjo-strumming, country singing bears .These bears entertain us with songs and words and never ever hibernate , unless we walk out of the door.

Stayed at Orlando Renaissance

Finally we did the trip to florida , one of the last places on our must see list in the USA.We had stayed at the Mariott's Renaissance Seaworld resort.

The breakfast buffet was amazing, they had an amazingly huge spread. It had four different kinds of cheeses.Omelet station and French toast station , tropical fruits station , pastries and cookies station , juice station.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much food it had. Vaishu had a whale of a time :).She would get herself a plate of waffles and maple syrup and pancakes too and i would fill up my plates with delicious mango slices ,water melon , pineapple slices, strawberries , croissants and jelly puffs and toasted butter.

The service was excellent and the staff was very nice , best part was the break fast was free :).So now you know why my tummy looks round in the photos :).

The rooms were nice and huge , stylishly decorated with a huge LCD flat screen tv.The bed was huge and so comfortable we never wanted to wake up.

Sea world was literally right across the street so all we had to do was wakeup , have our break fast and then hop out to see shamu.

The first Kermit the Frog balloon debuted in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1977. The balloon was 63 feet tall and 24 feet wide, and took four hours and 5,220 cubic feet of helium to reach its full size. It was constructed at the Goodyear plant in Rockmart, Georgia.
Since then Kermit has been a regular with the latest newest one built in 2002.He has hopped into the hearts of millions of people who had come to watch the Macy's thanksgiving parade ever since.

Yesterday was one of our favorite days of the Year. The Annual Macy's Thanks Giving Parade day.Giant balloons, lovely weather and enthusiastic crowds proved a perfect recipe as the Macy‘s Thanksgiving Day Parade flowed through the streets of Manhattan on Broadway. We woke up early , difficult thing to do on a holiday morning , so we could reach Times Square early and get a nice viewing spot.We were thrilled that we got a perfect place to stand and watch and best thing was there were TV cameras too , so may be we got lucky and came up in few of the tv channels. This year, there were twelve giant balloons: Dora the Explorer, Kermit the Frog, Healthy Mr. Potato Head (he was wearing a jogging suit !), Scooby Doo, Ronald McDonald, Pikachu with His colorful Poke-Ball, Energizer Bunny, Flying Ace Snoopy, and JoJo's Circus, along with new balloons Abby Cadabby, Shrek, and Super Cute Hello Kitty! As if Hello Kitty could get more cute! There were also fifteen novelty balloons, like the Macy's Stars and Chloe the Holiday Clown and new ones like Planet Earth and Rabbit for Macy's Parade by Jeff Koons.I thought this Rabbit was the one they forgot to paint as it was all metallic and shiny. This year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving parade which starts off at Central Park west and marches down Broadway had the grumpy green Shrek as a speciality — one of three new balloons — and the Virginia Tech marching band playing in tribute to victims of last spring’s campus shooting.This band was awesome as the moved perfectly to the music in union and wonderful coordination.

This was the view from the rapids end , when we were on the walk way to the 3 sisters islands.You can see the water and foam rising up where the Horshoe falls start.The skyline in the back ground is Canada.

This was the place where the rapids just ended and then the water went over the Niagara falls.It was a beautiful sunset with the sunlight sparkling on the waters.This bridge joined the Goat island to the main Niagara falls state park

This was the view of the American Falls from the maid of the mist boat.Notice the rainbow on the left hand side , it was a magical sight to behold.Can you see the people dressed in yellow in the right hand corner,thats the Cave of the winds tour where you get to go very near to the falls.

The American Falls is one of three waterfalls that together are known as Niagara Falls on the Niagara River along the Canada-U.S. border. Unlike the wider Horseshoe Falls, which is on the Canadian side of the border, the American Falls is completely within the U.S. state of New York.

The falls receive approximately 10% of the flow from Niagara River, with most of the rest going over Horseshoe Falls, from which it is separated by Goat Island. It has a straight line crest width of about 253 m (830 feet). If measured along the jagged lip of the falls, the crest is about 290 m (950 feet) long. The torrent of water passing over the crest of the falls is about 0.6 m (2 feet) deep.

The height of the American Falls ranges between 21 to 34 metres (70-110 feet). This measurement is taken from the top of the Falls to top of the rock pile (talus). The height of the Falls from the top of the Falls to the river is 57 metres (188 feet).

The falls are viewable from a steep angle on the American side, where it is possible to approach to within several meters of the edge of the falls. One can view the falls from the bank of the river, as well as on Goat Island, which is accessible by a pedestrian bridge that crosses the rapids of the Niagara river upstream from the falls.

The ledge of the American Falls is shaped in a modified "W" form, caused by numerous rockfalls over the past 150 years which have resulted in the huge mound of rock at its base. The most notable recent rockfall occurred in 1954 with the collapse of Prospect Point to the north.
